Panorama was originally the staff dining room. Architect Gaston Eysselinck deliberately placed it high up in the building, giving staff sweeping views across the city. Today, this same space, with its rooftop terrace and 180° views, offers a distinctive setting for a lunch, reception or gathering.

When the listed building was transformed into a cultural centre, new spaces, contemporary architecture and professional theatre facilities were added. Glass walkways now connect the historic parts of the building with the modern additions. The character of the original post office remains tangible, alongside all the comfort and possibilities of a contemporary event venue.
Make the building part of your programme
Want your guests to discover more than the space you’re meeting in? Include a guided tour of De Grote Post in your programme.
A guide takes you through the building, sharing the story of architect Gaston Eysselinck, the former post office and its transformation into a cultural centre. It’s a refreshing break during a conference, meeting or event, and a different way to get to know De Grote Post and Ostend.
From post office to cultural centre
De Grote Post was designed by Ostend architect Gaston Eysselinck and opened in 1953 as the city’s new post office. The modernist building was listed as a protected monument in 1981.
After the postal services moved out, the building found a new purpose. B-architecten transformed the former post office into the cultural centre De Grote Post is today, respecting its original architecture while adding new spaces and facilities for performing arts, gatherings and events.
Since 2012, people have come together here every day once again. This time, for culture, conversation, meetings, conferences and events, rather than to send a letter or telegram.
